Christmas, the Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Gift Giving

Christmas. This is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. And as a parent, it is my job to make it so for my kids. No matter what religion, at this time of year, the kids should come first.

In past years, we would take the kids to shop for gifts for those that they wanted to give to. Just as with most adults, they would have trouble thinking of the "perfect" gift. And usually, they would pick something that they would want instead of what the person they were getting the gift for. It was very time consuming and frustrating for both parent and child.

This year we are going to try something different, and who knows, it might turn into a new family tradition. This year, my wife suggested that we try drawing names to see who you give a gift to instead of trying to give a gift to everyone. Hopefully this will save a lot of time and frustration for both the kids and parents. Also, out of necessity, it will save money.

We already drew names, and are going to take the kids shopping today. They don't necessarily like the name they picked, but we are going to follow the rules that we set. If all goes well, we will implement this process next year.

Hopefully this will take some of the stress away from the kids and add more fun.

As for me and my wife, she went shopping on Black Friday, as she usually does. I haven't done any shopping. I usually have to wait until Christmas Eve. Talk about stress. I am not a good shopper under pressure. Maybe one of these years, things will be different.

This is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. I shouldn't be stressed out about everything. Being with my family and children are the most important.
