Poem

Yesterday, while searching through a moving box that we haven't put away yet, I found some poems that I wrote throughout the years. One of them is about children. At the time that I wrote it, I did not have any, but it was written to helpe me deal with the loss of my first child that passed away two days after he was born. Her it is:

The Children

A little child passed away today
From my eyes fell another tear
In the darkness the parents still grieve
Raising their hands into the air
Why was their child taken away
Does anyone even care?

Can you hear the children
When they cry?
Have you seen their faces
When they die?
Can you hear the thunder
When the lightning strikes?
Have you seen the eagle
When it flies?

You must open your eyes
You must open your soul
Do not let your heart
Grow silent and cold
Look into a child's eyes
And you will see
A love that is true
And a love that is free

A little child passed away today
From my eyes fell another tear
In the darkness the people still live
Raising their hands in silent prayer
To their empty and lifeless gods
About the chilren - they no longer care

I am not sure what it means, or ment at the time, or even if it did...maybe just something to clear my head.
