Nipples

That's right...nipples. Something that I never thought about having to explain to my children. They ask about all kinds of things like why does it rain, why is it cold, what kind of bug is that, what does a butterfly eat...and so on. But I never thought about how to explain nipples to them.

Well, last night when my 5yr old son was drying off after his bath, he pointed to one of his nipples and asked, "What is that daddy?".

Of course I didn't know what to say or how to explain it to him so I said, "It is part of your body."

"Oh," he said.

"Everyone has them." says I.

"Do you have them?" he asked.

"Yes, everyone does."

"Are yours big ones daddy?" he asked.

By this time I couldn't help my self and started laughing. I know I shouldn't have, but I just couldn't help my self. Then he started laughing and said "Ok daddy. I want to be Spider Man tonight." He was refering to pajamas with said super hero on them. But only the Scooby Doo ones were left. He didn't seem upset he couldn't be Spidey and put good ole Scooby on without complaint.

The old saying, though well worn out, that kids say the darndest things, is so true. He is at that stage where he's begining to not take thingsfor granted or on face value and is starting to inquire about things I didn't know I would have to explain. But I know that some day each of them will ask me something that I won't want to explain or not know how...like the birds and the bees..and then I can refer them to their mother.
