We set a record!

Well, today we hit a record high temp. We made it to 115F. A record that we can be proud of. Inside our house, it is 93F with the air conditioning running. Obviously not running properly. Back in 1990 or so it hit 122F. The airport had to shut down because their charts that showed how much weight that could be carried on the plane at different temperatures didn't go that high. At the time I was driving a 1972 Volkswagon Super Beetle with vinyl seats and of course no air. Talk about a sweat box.

In order to escape the heat toaday, we took the kids to the "zoo". In our case it is the local PetSmart. The kids can look at fish, birds and other assorted criters in the comfort of air conditioning that works. And besides, it is free. Well, it wasn't exactly free this time. My step daughter said she liked the guinea pigs. So, my wife asked about them and what was needed to care for one. So, my wife decided she wanted to get one for my daughter, though I think she wanted one for herself too.

We couldn't get one then because we had to go eat and let the dog in because of the heat. After we took care of those items, we went to the Humane Society and they so happened to have three guniea pigs. I kind of liked the rabbits, but we ended up getting one of the guinea pigs for $10. A long haired black and white one. I told my wife that I would have nothing to do with the care of this animal. The last pet she got (a toy fox terrier) for her, I ended up doing all the care and she wouldn't interact with it much at all. That is why I said I would have nothing to do with this one, not that I don't like guinea pigs, but if she wants it, she takes care of it.

My two boys have been fussing and crying because they want to pet the "pig" it the worst way. We have two cats and a dog, but I guess they are old news now. My step daughter, who it is for, has to clean her room before we put it in there. Which will probably take several days of concerted effort. Her room is such a mess, it looks like hurrican Ivan struck...twice. She is really excited though. Hopefully she won't need too much prodding for the care part.
