Today we had two thunderstorms roll through town. The first one was really strong and brought a lot of rain. While I was out, my wife let the kids play in the rain as long as they got showers afterwards. I don't know what it is about rain that makes kids want to run outside and get wet. They get so much joy from frolicking in a storm. Watching the kids engage in this activity warms my heart and takes me back to when I was a kid, a time when there were no cares or worries or stress. Maybe that is why the kids get such happiness from playing in the rain, as they should.
I don't know what happens to people when the get older, but being able to feel that happiness we did as a kid is near impossible. We get so wrapped up in all the stresses, responsibilities, problems and minutia of being "grown up" that we forget how to really live like kids do by engaging in a simple pleasure like playing in the rain. It is kind of sad really. If only we weren't conditioned to rid ourselves of that aspect of life and hang on to it throughout our lives. We would be so much happier.
