Inspection

The past few days we have pretty much been stressing out for nothing. Although, it could have turned out the other way.

It all started about two weeks or so ago when the property management company that we rent our house through called and said they wanted to do their pre-lease signing inspection. It so happened that we were going on our camping trip to Utah that week so they scheduled it for the week after we got back. That gave us a few days to clean the house before the inspection.

Well, we did our best in the time we had to clean up, expecting that the hawk lady would be doing the inspection. Last time she noted a little dust here, a little dust there, a cob web or two and suggested that we do a better job at dusting. This time, I dusted everything I could think of so as not to have a repeat.

The day came and we figured we had done all we could to pacify the hawk lady. The appointment time came and went with no one. Then I got a call from the office saying that the person had been delayed and would be to the house shortly. Sure enough, the girls came running to the door yelling that someone was here.

Fortunately the person they had chosen to do the inspection was not the dreaded hawk lady. It was a young girl in her early twenties that I have never seen around the office before. I figure she is an intern from college. We were glad for that. She went from room to room quickly looking around, noting this or that on her clip board.

Just an aside: My two youngest daughters grabbed their clip boards they use for drawing and followed her around checking of and writing things down. After she left, they gave me their reports. It was very cute.

When she was done, she asked if there were anything else that needed noting. We told her about the floor in the dining room that was about to fall through. Something we noted when we first moved in here three years ago. Also, I informed her about a possible water leak at the water meter. She wrote it down.

We said our good byes and she was off. I didn't expect to hear about the floor because last time the repair guy said that the owners didn't want to pay for it at that time. But, lo and behold, this morning I got a call from a construction guy that said he was to inspect the floor and return an estimate to the owner. Wow. I didn't expect that. I also got a call from a plumbing company that is to inspect the possible water leak in the front yard. Two for two. Now if only I could go three for three and win the Lottery from last night...

That will never happen. Two out of three isn't bad though.
