Normally I really hate going to the dentist. When they scrape your teeth or floss, poke and prod your mouth gives me the creeps. I don't know how else to describe it. I have never liked going and I don't know anyone who does.
But, I have found myself in a position to go of my own free will. I have resisted going for as long as I could, but the pain is just too great. I have known for some time that one of my teeth was cracked and that one of my wisdom teeth needed to be removed. Since we live paycheck to paycheck and usually don't have any money left over, I have put off having my teeth taken care of. Now, the pain is too much to ignore.
I went to the dentist today to see what the damage will be. She said that the tooth is too fare gone to save so it needs to be removed. She suggested that at the same time I have the wisdom tooth next to it at the same time. This, unfortunately, will leave a big gap on the left side of my mouth. The dentist said it should be OK, but will take getting used to. I had the office give me an estimate for how much for an implant to replace the one removed. I wasn't too surprised by the cost, but it will be a while before I am able to have it done, unless we can get financing, which I doubt.
Hopefully the pain will go away with the teeth and I won't have to take pain meds anymore.
Is there a moral to this story? I doubt it, but if I had to write one, it would be that dentists are not always the enemy. I know it is a weak moral, but that is all I got. What did you expect from a post about a trip to the dentist?
