I Just Don't Understand

When I was dropping my daughter off at high school, I noticed how many kids were driving themselves and how many of them were driving new vehicles. There were some driving old vehicles that looked like they could use some work, but there were brand new SUVs and cars. I even saw one kid driving a new Ford Expedition.

Whether they were just driving their parents vehicle or their parents had purchased these vehicles for them, I just don't understand why. We live in a small town and there is only one high school. Buses pick up students where need be and other students that live closer walk. But letting your kid drive a few miles to school every day is beyond me. I am sure that there are some that have special circumstances that I don't know about. I guess that I am just old school.

I know that I will take a lot of hits for this, but I don't think parents should let kids drive to school if it is not absolutely necessary and especially not get them a new vehicle. When I was in high school, kids that had cars, also had jobs and paid their own insurance and gas. Which is as it should be. Kids will appreciate things better if they have to work for it instead of just have things given to them. It seems that a lot of the high school age kids have a bad attitude because their parents give them everything and from what I heard, they get off easy when committing crimes in this town (another topic for another time).

OK. I am done with my rant.
