Today, my kids are really working their imagination. After they helped me with some house cleaning this morning, I decided to keep the the TV off until after lunch. The kids were not to happy about it, but they are making the best of it.
Despite an occasional disagreement, they are playing together pretty well. They will play a game that was made up on the spot for a while, then they will move on to another room and make up another game and so on and so on...
I really enjoy watching them play. I get to see how they interact with each other and who likes to take control. They are really creative. It takes me back to my childhood. We had no video games, or electronic toys or television to entertain us. We did have board and card games though. We mostly used our imagination and had lots of fun.
Today, I do not think kids are encouraged enough or allowed to use their imaginations. I admit that I do let my kids watch too much TV sometimes. Most of the shows on today are horrible...(a topic for another post). Sorry, I am getting off track. Anyway, I think that kids who use their imaginations are happier and are better in school and are better problem solvers. It is just my opinion, but that is my story and I am sticking to it.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
