Like Father, Like Son

I think there comes a point in most men's lives where we realize that we have taken on some of the mannerisms of our sire. Now, these traits may not be desirable to us, or it may seem an honor to be unconsciously carrying on our father's ways, but it is an inevitable discovery.

When we were kids, our fathers had a certain way of doing things that we got into our heads that we would do this or that different than him. That maybe we had a better way of doing it or maybe we didn't really think about how he did things. That was just the way dad did it.

I know that pretty much every guy will have that epiphany where he realizes he is doing something exactly the his dad did it. Right or wrong, good or bad, at some point, without realizing it, we just started doing it that way.

Some of you guys may thing that I am full of crap. You are not your father and you do things different. In part, that is true. We all do things different. But, whether we like it or not we do pick up some mannerisms from our parents.

I for one, stop in my tracks every so often when I realize that what I am doing, I am doing just like one of my parents. Most of the time it is from my dad.

Last night there was a storm approaching where we live. There wasn't any thunder yet, but there was a lot of lightning. I sat there for a while on the front porch watching the show. Then I went and got the kids and had them watch. At that moment I realized that is what my dad used to do. He would sit on the back porch and watch the storm roll in and enjoy the lightning and sometimes he would tell us to come out to watch.

There are other incidents that I won't go into now, for this post is already too long and I have babbled on way too much.

I will stand by my theory that most men at one time or another will find themselves doing something or saying something just like dear old dad used to do.
