I think it was last week or so that the show, So You Think You Can Dance started its new season. I am not particularly a fan of the show, but my wife doesn't mind it and my two youngest daughters love it.
When we tell our daughters that the show is on, the come running into the living room. Usually they are already for bedtime.
When the people start their dance routines, so do my daughters. They try and mimic the dancers on the screen, but go into their own routines with all kinds of moves. It is very cute. And during their dance, they make sure that all my attention is on them. It if they find it wavering, they make sure to redirect it back to them. Every once in a while they get mad if they think that my attention is on one more than the other. But usually they have a really good time and are happy.
It brings me great joy watching them dance and seeing the light in their eyes and the smile on their faces. I know these moments will get fewer and farther between the older they get, so I will enjoy them to the fullest.
Being a parent is the best job in the world. It is not the easiest job, but it is the best and I would not change it for anything.

I have a son who learning to dance and I get to watch the same routine, so to speak. It is a joy to watch him just enjoy being a kid. When did grown ups begin to forget how much fun it is to just move to our own rhythm?
Kids don't think about being embarrassed like we adults do. Unfortunately, the thought of someone poking fun at an adult's dancing to his or her own rhythm can be a big deal breaker for most adults. I will on occasion dance with my kids or if I am in the mood, dance around the house trying to get the kids to get moving and away from the TV screen. I think this also applies to adults moving to their own rhythm with their lives as well. We tend to live the way others might expect us to and not they we really want.
