Kindergarten or Bust

My youngest daughter will be four and a half when the next school year starts. She won't be 5 until January. She knows all her colors, can recognize all the letters of the alphabet, can count past 10, knows all basic shapes, and has a very good vocabulary. She can do pretty much anything required of beginning kindergartner but can't be on because her birthday comes six months too late.

I don't think age should be the only factor in deciding when a child can start school. She is always wanting to learn what her older sister and brothers are doing in school. To not let her learn at her rate instead of some ignorant rule is wrong. Even the online home school that my oldest son attends won't let her in until 5 years old.

I know that I can continue to teach her things so she can continue to learn, but I guarantee she will be bored when she gets to kindergarten by the time she is when she turns the required age. I am sure there are others out there who have had a similar situation.

I am still going to try and get her into a school when school starts in July. I may not succeed, but I am still going to try.
