Earlier today, I decided that we needed to go for a walk after lunch. We haven't been for some time so it seemed like a good idea at the time. And, since it has been a while since our last walk, I forgot about the usual problems the we have.
I had all the kids put their walking shoes on, even N despite her protests. I told everyone to go to the bathroom before we left so we wouldn't have any problems on our walk. Unfortunately, not everyone listened to me.
The distance to the trail was a mere 0.3 mile. Something I thought the kids could handle. Well, we started on our journey, and not even half way there, several of the kids said they were thirsty despite taking a drink before we left. So, out with the water bottles.
We made it to the trail head and a few yards beyond, when my daughter, Z, let it be known that she had to go the bathroom. I don't know why I was surprised but it quickly turned to frustration. She didn't listen to me as usual. After a little water break, we turned around and headed back home.
We didn't get home in time to avoid an accident despite my best efforts. I do want to try again tomorrow to complete a walk or at least get farther than we did. It seems that their efforts to sabotage the walk worked and were better than my efforts to have an enjoyable one. I will have to a better plan for tomorrow that they won't be able to foil.
