Better Than Sliced Bread
A number of years ago, a new service called Netflix came out that for a low monthly fee, you could pick up to three movies to watch on DVD and they would mail them to your house. You could keep them for as long as you liked with no overdue charges. At the time, my wife and I were members of Blockbuster and were tired of overdue fees so we jumped at the chance and signed up.
After you sign up, you then go about picking movies and add them to your list and then wait for them to come in the mail.
When the first set came, we were so excited. It was like Christmas in July. We started going through all the movies we wanted to see but never did and were glad because most of them were bad. We would watch them right away and then send them back the next day or so and then patiently wait for those awesome red envelopes to arrive.
But that was then.
Now, when the movies come in the mail, they can sit on the shelf for a week or maybe more before we watch them. And sometimes, we never watch then and just send them back. I know. Why dont we just cancel the service if we are no longer utilizing the service? Because of one important feature; "Watch instantly".
When I saw that they started offering "Watch instantly"selections, I almost wet myself.
There a special player that you need to install on your computer then any movie from your "Watch instantly" cue can be watched.
There are episodes of Magnum P.I., Simon & Simon, the A Team, Emergency, the Rockford Files, The Adams Family, the Munsters, and even Xena, Warrior Princess. Good shows for my kids.
Then, just this past Christmas, Santa was very good to us. He brought us both a PlayStation 3 and a Wii game console. We thought we had died and gone to Heaven. Then I saw that Netflix "Watch instantly" movies were available to view on the PlayStation 3 over the wireless network. I almost shit myself. I ordered the disk and installed the viewer and I was really in Heaven. To be able to watch all the movies I wanted instantly right in my living room was too much.
My kids are into watching all those golden oldies, becoming slugs. I love to see them sitting in front of the television all day long, their mouth open, staring at these great old shows. Makes me proud to be a parent.
And just when I thought it couldnt get any better, it goes and gets better. A commercial on TV said that Netflix was now available through the Wii console. I ordered the disk and our viewing pleasure just got better, as impossible as that may seem. The interface is much better on the Wii than the one on the PlayStation 3. Wow, did I just make rhyme?
All the old shows I used to love, movies I always wanted to see at my fingertips! This time I did shit and piss myself. The world would never be the same and neither would my couch.
