Fire Burnin'

(This incident happened a while back but I am just now getting around to posting it)

While decorative metal burner covers for the kitchen stove are functional and can compliment any decor, they can also be dangerous...especially where I am concerned.

The other night I was in a hurry trying to get dinner ready before my wife left for work. I put a pan on the stove, turned the heat up high, threw some meat in, and went on to other tasks, It seemed to be taking an awful long time for the meet to start coking, especially with the burner on high. I went over to the stove to figure out why when i started seeing faint wisps of smoke coming from under the pan.

"I guess something spilled on the burner," I thought to myself.

Then a cloud of smoke erupted from under the pan. I lifted the pan and realized my mistake too late. There blackened and smoking was a burner cover.

"Fuck!" I exclaimed, unfortunately in earshot of one or more of my kids.

I grabbed a knife and flung the cover off the hot burner onto a cold one and turned on the exhaust fan hoping that the smoke alarm would not sound. Luckily it didn't.

All that I could think of was how mad my wife was going to be that I had done this again, probably for the fifth time and that she will have to buy a new set of covers. There goes my allowance for the month.
