Learning to Ride a Bike

The other day, I decided to put together the bikes that we got my two boys for Christmas last year. I know its a bit late, but better late than never. Besides, they are growing fast now and pretty soon they will be too big for the bikes. And ever since we bought them helmets last week, they have been excited to ride their bikes.

When we were back in Missouri, we had a bike from the thrift store that had training wheels on it and they rode that thing pretty much every day, but were too afraid for me to remove the training wheels. When I put there new bikes together, I M and I decided that we would not put the training wheels on. I was prepared for a few days of teaching them to ride and them falling and fussing that they couldn't "do it."

Well, when they got home from school and saw their bikes put together, there was no holding them back. I couldn't get the bikes out front fast enough. We got their helmets on and they got on their bikes and waited for me to help them. While I was helping my older son, my younger son started riding on his own. It was amazing to see him riding without having helped him. I was pushing Z and telling him how to use the brakes and how to put his legs out when stopping and then let go and he was riding on his own. I was so amazed that they both were riding their with barely any instruction. Yesterday, they rode and rode. The only reason J wanted to stop is that he was sweating under his helmet.

Now my middle daughter, Z, who is four wants and needs a bike. Right now she has a trike that is way too small for her and is better suited for my almost two year old daughter. So, I guess we have something to put on her Christmas list.

I haven't told my mom yet. I was trying to get a video that I could send her over the email, but I may just have to mail her a CD with some videos on it.

I am very happy they have learned to ride a bike. They are growing up fast, and before I know it, they won't need me anymore and then they will be all grown up and out of the house. I am going to try and enjoy these moments while I can.
