Sunday, my wife and I took our kids up north for the day so our kids could experience snow for their first time.
My 8yr old step daughter, N, had been in snow before, but not since she was really little. My two sons had never seen snow before. We got off to a late start, but after eating lunch, we drove to Goldwater lake in Prescott, AZ and there was enough snow for them to play. It was pretty cold, but we had enough on for an hour or so in the snow.
The kids really enjoyed themselves and I enjoyed watching them play. The boys spent most of the time going down the slide at the lake play area. After some time, they started playing in the snow and throwing it at each other. Not being in snow before, they didn't take time to make snow balls, so when they threw it, it rarely hit us.
Our 4mo. old daughter didn't like the cold too much, but she was able to watch the other kids play in the snow. Next time we will bring warmer clothes for her.
All in all, it was an OK trip. My wife's leg was bothering her from a fall injury previously so she didn't enjoy it as much as she could have.
I am really glad they got to play in the snow finally. When I was growing up, I can't recall my parents specifically taking us up to play in the snow even though it was only 1.5 hr drive away. We had gone to Flagstaff several times where we could see patches of snow on the side of the road and a few in town, but that is it.
I really would like to raise our kids somewhere where there are 4 seasons and snow and where you don't have to water the ground to get grass to grow. Here in Phoenix there are basically only 2 seasons, hot and hotter.
