Yesterday, we took the kids North out of town for a picnic. It was about a 1.5 hour drive to the mountains where it was 15+ degrees cooler. We went to a lake that we had never been to and it turned out to be a really nice spot. There were a lot of people, but was enough space that it didn't feel crowded.
The kids liked it so much, that they didn't want to leave. It was the first time that we took them on a real picnic. I think we all had a good time. The kids behaved themselves pretty well. A little surprising to me, but welcomed.
It reminded me of the times that my parents would take us on picnics all the time. We really had fun then. I want my kids to have good memories like that.
We don't have many days left to go out of town before the baby is born, so I think that we sould go on a few more of these trips in the next month. Hopefuly we can afford to. My wife probably won't be able to go on road trips for long, getting closer to the due date.
Watching my children run around and play together yesterday, really made me happy and realize how much I really love being a father.
